LP Brussels Director Mark Watts attended the two-day European Shipping Summit in Brussels this week, bringing together industry leaders, regulators, innovators and other key stakeholders, to discuss how to navigate the unprecedented volume of new EU regulations, funds, penalties and levies and the business opportunities that creates for first movers and innovators.
1. Waiting is not a plan. Invest in lower carbon fuels and vessels or face huge EU penalties from next year. Huge Opportunities for First Movers & Innovators
2. Integrate the European maritime ecosystem and fuel supply chain into the NZIA.
3. The €2 Billion set aside in the Innovation Fund for maritime decarbonisation is a great start, but more funding, greater transparency and bid simplification is needed, particulary for SMEs.
4. It’s not too late to share knowledge and know-how to shape the future. The details are still being written by the EU.
